Hi Misslisabeth, Thanks for sharing your story. I used to work with dementia patients. There was one lady who played the piano beautifully. My dad had vascular dementia in the last years of his life. My aunt (mother's sister) has possible Lewy body dementia. The man in the picture was a musician. He can no longer remember how to play the music he wrote, and he can't remember who his family members are. I hope your mom is able to find times of peace and contentment. Cie
Wow your words have really touched me today . . . my father has dementia. Diagnosed 2014 although I have seen signs since 2010. In past few weeks we have finally lost him, and so whilst it is still my dad sitting there it is no longer him. Thank you for your post.
Becky, thank you for sharing your experience. My father had vascular dementia, and we were lucky that he recognized us up till the end. Still, he was not the same person any more. He had been a college professor. At the end, he was like a frightened child. He was sundowning and confusing things that were happening on TV with real life.
The man in the picture was a musician. He was diagnosed with dementia when he was only 55. He is now 63 and can remember nothing of his life, including the people closest to him. His brother said in an interview at the beginning of 2015 that "he isn't in there at all any more." It's heartbreaking.

My mom has dementia, too. That is why it is so wonderful to hear her sing words that she remembers with the music.
