"Listen to the Sound of Silence"

To sit in silence, be it on a chair, a bed, a cushion, the floor, a bench in the park or when by a river or lake, by the ocean, on a train or bus, on an aeroplane, sitting in your car, leaning against a tree in your garden, cross-legged on the floor, by the light of day, by the silver of night, in the dark, in the brightest sunlight, for five minutes or five hours, listen to the sound of silence.

Listen in the way a cat does seemingly half asleep to the sounds of the world turning. Listen. Listen to your breathing. Again, like a cat when it purs, follow the undulations of your breathing similar to the sound of the ocean lapping. You will hear life moving about you. Life going on within you and without you as you and it become as one.

Something so necessary, and yet I forget to do it. My head always seems caught up in one struggle or another. My son and I were both drawn to Buddhism because of this principle. Unfortunately, while the philosophies resonate with us, we really don't practice the meditative aspect much, and we should. It would be good for us.
I am reminded though that meditation doesn't need to be an act which one practices. One can do it in every day life, as you mention in this post. Thank you!

I have to say it is a bit hard. Having to silence the mind, as you know, isn't easy. Good when it works. Great in fact.

Sage advice.

We must remember the butterflies, so far, always come back.

Have a wonderful day.

My son has thought about trying some sensory deprivation stuff to see if it will help tune out the monkey mind. I used to have a pair of glasses that made light patterns. Unfortunately, they got broken and the company that sold them doesn't exist any more.
